Spanish League Results: Barcelona Conquer At Celta Vigo Headquarters


Barcelona suffered a defeat after locking the Spanish league title 2018/19. Visiting the headquarters of Celta Vigo, Barca surrendered with the final score 0-2.

In the match at the Stadium Balaidos, Sunday (05/05/2019) morning WIB, Barca rested almost all of the main players. Given that in the middle of next week, Los Cules will face an important match when visiting Liverpool's headquarters in the Champions League semi-final second leg.

Both teams played equally strong without goals throughout the first half. Celta's victory was only determined in the second half with goals from Maximilliano Gomez and Iago Aspas penalty.

Thanks to this victory, Celta climbed to 14th place in the standings with 40 points from 36 matches. Celta is five points clear of Real Valladolid in the relegation zone. While Barca collected 83 points.


The course of the match

Barcelona got the first chance from a corner in the second minute. The ball slid to the near post to be headed by Carles Alena to the Moussa Wague, but before reaching Ruben Blanco's goal it was intercepted.

Celta struggled to control the ball in the early minutes of this match and was forced to hold on. Even so, the home team actually managed to create real opportunities in the ninth minute.

A long ball from Blanco was received by Maximiliano Gomez who ran in the box. The attacker welcomed the ball with a first-time shot, but still deviated from the post.

In the final minutes of the first half, Barca created a threat to Celta's goal. Wague stabbed from the right side, before firing a shot that can be driven away by Blanco.

A minute later, Boufal threatened again. Bufal poked the ball from the left flank before making a curling shot into the top corner of the goal. The ball is still soaring.

The deadlock finally split. In the 67th minute, Celta broke the Barca goal to lead 1-0. Boudebouz's cross was received by Gomez to finish with a shot into the bottom corner of the goal.

Substitute Brais Mendez almost created an instant impact. Just five minutes after entering the field, Mendez fired a curling shot into the near post but it was just wide.

Celta claimed a penalty in the last five minutes before normal time ran out. The referee checks the VAR, before pointing to the white dot. Aspas advanced as executor, and managed to outwit Cillessen to enlarge Celta's lead to 2-0 in the 88th minute.

In the remaining time of the game, Barca were unable to score a reply. A score of 2-0 for Celta's advantage lasted until the match broke up.
